ASI martyred in Peshawar attack
PESHAWAR: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) was martyred after he was shot by unidentified assailants in Gulbahar locality in the provincial capital early Sunday amidst an increase in attacks on police in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
An official said ASI of the City Patrol Peshawar, Asifullah, was wounded after he was shot by armed men in Gulbahar. The attackers managed to escape from the spot after committing the crime.
The wounded cop was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The funeral prayer for the fallen cop was offered at the Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines. Capital City Police Officer Qasim Ali and other senior police officials attended the funeral. Police officers came under attacks in Peshawar, Hangu and Dera Ismail Khan within a few hours on the night between Saturday and Sunday. In the last 24 hours, a station house officer, his guard and two others were wounded when they were attacked by armed men in Hangu late Saturday night. In Dera Ismail Khan, a deputy superintendent of police remained unharmed when attackers opened fire on his car at midnight. A day earlier, a station house officer was martyred in Lower South Waziristan. An increase has been witnessed in attacks on police and security forces in different districts of KP in recent weeks.
