Kurram admin accused of ordering forces to fire at rally
PESHAWAR: The General Secretary of the Majlis Wahdatul Muslimin Syed Mohammad Sibtain has accused the Kurram Agency administration of ordering the security forces to fire at a rally Wednesday in Parachinar where at least three people were killed and several others were injured.
Addressing a news conference at the Peshawar Press Club on Thursday, he said the local administration had banned entry of noted “Naatkhwan” Mustafa Kazmi into Kurram Agency and this led to protest rally in Parachinar. “It was the worst kind of state terrorism when the security forces opened indiscriminate fire at a peaceful rally,” he said. He demanded high-level inquiry into the incident.
He said the political administration had also arrested dozens of local people who expressed resentment against the ban on entry of a religious figure into Kurram Agency.Syed Mohammad Sibtain said that peace and normality had returned to the volatile Kurram Agency but now the killing of innocent people at the hands of security forces might create unrest amongst the locals. He demanded that the president of Pakistan, chief justice and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor should take note of the situation and order an impartial inquiry into the recent killings in Kurram Agency.
