LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has downplayed the need for a vice captain, saying Babar Azam is “more than sufficient” in his opinion.

He highlighted the team’s strong combination and talent, suggesting they can excel under Azam’s captaincy. Naqvi emphasised the importance of unwavering support for the team during a media interaction and a dinner held in London. He discouraged criticism and requested fans to back the players regardless of the outcome on the field. “This is the time to support the team,” he stated. He expressed his full support behind the national team ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup, urging fans to do the same. Naqvi commended the immense talent within the Pakistani team. He urged fans to acknowledge their abilities and avoid negativity. “The Pakistani team comprises excellent players with immense talent. I request everyone to cease the criticism,” he said.

Naqvi advised the players to concentrate on their performance rather than getting bogged down by the pressure to win. “Give your best effort. Winning and losing are in Allah’s hands,” he stated. He expressed optimism about the team’s potential in the World Cup, stating, “I see this team going very far in the World Cup.” Naqvi confirmed his intention to attend the World Cup, although his schedule remains uncertain. He expressed a desire to watch the high-profile Pakistan-India match if his schedule allows.
