Lahore to host 19 events of South Asian Games

LAHORE: Secretary Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) Nadeem Irshad Kayani and Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Punjab Muzaffar Khan Sial co-chaired meeting held at the Punjab Stadium on Monday to review the preparations of 2025 South Asian Games.

It is pertinent to mention that 19 out of 27 sports disciplines in the South Asian Games will be held in Lahore while 14 games will be conducted by Sports Department Punjab at its own venues.

DG Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Zahoor Ahmed, Director General Sports Punjab Pervez Iqbal, Secretary Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) Khalid Mahmood, Secretary Punjab Olympic Association (PbOA) Idris Haider Khawaja, and Director Sports Yasmeen Akhtar attended the key meeting.

Representatives from various sports federations including President Pakistan Tennis Federation Aisamul Haq, and officials from rugby, baseball, wrestling and hockey federations were also present in the meeting.

Secretary IPC emphasised the efforts of the Sports Board Punjab to ensure the best possible arrangements for the South Asian Games. Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Punjab Muzaffar Khan Sial highlighted the excellent sports facilities available in Punjab and the commitment to providing the participants with exceptional amenities.

DG Sports Punjab assured the meeting that sports venues are undergoing upgrades in preparation for the event. The Sports Board Punjab is dedicated to utilising all available resources to make the South Asian Games a resounding success.

Overall, this meeting signifies significant progress in organising the 2025 South Asian Games in the provincial capital. The collaborative efforts between various sports bodies and the Punjab government indicate a commitment to hosting a world-class event.
