Eight members of a family, most of them women and children, suffered injuries in a powerful explosion that was apparently caused by a gas leak in their home in the Soldier Bazaar neighbourhood on Saturday.
Following the blast, police and different welfare organisations’ workers reached the site to take the injured to the Burns Ward of Dr Ruth KM Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi, where doctors termed their condition out of danger.
According to doctors, the victims suffered burn injuries ranging between 15 and 20 per cent. The injured were identified as Moosa, 49, his wife Rabia, 39, and their children Gulshan, 20, Roshni, 15, Nasreen, 12, Ambreen, 11, Naveed, 10, and Rafiq, 8.
Police said the blast appears to be an accident, but an investigation is being conducted. Quoting the locals, the officials said that due to a lack of gas supply in the area, most residents use gas cylinders, which leads to such accidents.
