MANSEHRA: A 25-year-old woman was killed by black bear in the Jugan area of Balakot on Thursday.Razia Bibi, stated to be the mother of three children, was on her way to a nearby jungle to collect firewood when the bear attacked and injured her seriously.
The relatives said that the woman succumbed to her injuries on the way to the Civil Hospital in Balakot.Meanwhile, the relatives of the victim and residents of Jugan gathered at the central artery in Balakot to stage a protest over the incident. The demanded the registration of a first information report of the incident against the officials of the Wildlife Department.
“Such attacks by the wild animals are on the rise owing to the apathy of the Wildlife Department’s watchers and other officials,” alleged Muhammad Jamil, the spouse of the victim woman.He added that they would continue their protest till the registration of the FIR against the Wildlife Department’s officials.
The elders also met the deputy superintendent of police Balakot, Mohammad Farooq, and sought registration of the FIR of the incident.“The assistant commissioner Balakot has constituted a committee led by the divisional wildlife officer to hold an inquiry into the incident,” the DSP told the protesters.
