PESHAWAR: The members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council on Tuesday did not appear before the courts across the province in protest against the registration of the first information report (FIR) against a lawyer Ali Zaman Advocate.
The KP Bar Council had given the call for strike to protest the registration of the FIR against Ali Zaman Advocate. The lawyers stayed away from court proceedings, which affected the work of the judiciary.
Talking to reporters, KP Bar Council Vice-Chairman Sadiq Ali Mohmand termed the registration of the FIR against Ali Zaman Advocate as against the law and the constitution. He said that all the members of the bar council stood by Ali Zaman Advocate, asking the provincial government to quash the case against him. He said that no lawyer took part in the court proceedings in the provincial capital and other parts of the province.Addressing a gathering, Ali Zaman said that the registration of the FIR was politically motivated and demanded it should be quashed.
