This week’s financial leaks have revealed Pakistanis, as of between 2020 and 2022, owned property worth an estimated $11 billion in Dubai. The owners included former government officials and bankers. By the time period covered in the leaks, the country’s economy was already sinking, inflation was well on its way to reaching unprecedented levels and the dependency on foreign loans was also there.
One can assume that not much has changed in two years and our elites still own billions of dollars’ worth of property abroad. If all this money parked abroad is brought back into the country, I believe foreign loans will no longer be required and prosperity will prevail in Pakistan.
