Heatwave persists in City
LAHORE : Heatwave continued to prevail in the provincial capital, which witnessed 43.6°C here on Saturday while the Met office predicted similar weather conditions for the next 24 hours.
The hot and humid weather forced the majority of the citizens to stay indoors. The city roads were seen deserted in noon and afternoon.
The city canal was overcrowded with the citizens including families sitting under the trees in the scorching heat.
The Met office said a shallow westerly wave was likely to affect upper and western parts of the country today and may persist during next 24 hours.
They predicted that mainly hot and dry weather was expected in most parts of the country while very hot/windstorm-dust raising winds were likely in central and southern parts.
However, partly cloudy weather with rain-windstorm/thunderstorm is expected at isolated places in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, upper/central Punjab, Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir. Rainfall was only recorded at Mirkhani, Kalam, Bannu, Drosh and Kalat only.
Saturday’s highest maximum temperature was recorded at Shaheed Benazirabad where mercury reached 49°C while in Lahore it was 43.6°C and minimum was 29.6°C.
