Govt wants work on Red Line BRT project completed in 18 months, says Sharjeel
Sindh Senior Minister and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon on Saturday chaired a high-level meeting on the Red Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project in Karachi.
Acting Chief Operating Officer of Trans Karachi Shumaila Mohsin, Planning and Infrastructure General Manager Pir Sajjad Sarhandi, international consultants and project contractors attended the meeting.
Trans Karachi officials, international consultants and contractors gave a detailed briefing to Memon on the project.
The transport minister mentioned that President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari had been paying special attention to the Red Line BRT project. Both President Zardari and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah wanted the work on the Red Line BRT to be completed soon, he added.
He emphasised that the Red Line BRT was among the priority projects of the Sindh government, which would allocate all necessary resources for its completion.
Memon stated that the caretaker government did not pay attention to such a significant public project. Due to the caretaker government's lack of interest, work on the Red Line project was halted for several months, he said.
He mentioned that the Sindh government aimed to complete the Red Line BRT work within 18 months. "The Red Line BRT is very important, and we want the people to benefit from it soon," he remarked.
The transport minister highlighted that due to inflation and other issues, many beneficial projects for the people had already been delayed.
He emphasized that they cannot afford any further delays and urged for immediate resolution of all issues related to the Red Line BRT project.
