Pak teams to feature in IHF Central Asia event

LAHORE: Pakistan youth under-18 and junior under-20 handball teams will feature in the International Handball Federation (IHF) Central Asia Men’s Youth and Junior Trophy penciled in for June 22-26 at Almaty, Kazakhstan.

The training for the said trophy is in progress at Faisalabad for youth team under the supervision of coaches Muhammad Sohail and Muhammad Sohaib. Javed Iqbal is the camp commandant. For junior team training camp is in operation at the Army Stadium Rawalpindi under the supervision of coaches Azhar-ul-Haq and Babar Sultan. Sohaib Shafiq is the camp commandant.

The Pakistan men youth and junior teams won silver medals during the last IHF South and Central Asia Men Youth and Junior Trophy held at Faisalabad in 2018. Pakistan women youth and junior teams also won silver medals during last IHF, Central Asia Women Youth and Junior Trophy held at Faisalabad in 2023.

Pakistan Handball Federation (PHF) said that the teams are in good shape. Final trials for both outfits will be conducted in the first week of June at Faisalabad and Rawalpindi. The PHF said that the case for state clearance and special grant for this trophy has been submitted with the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) in due course of time and the federation is waiting for response.
