Kyrgyzstan volleyball team reaches Islamabad
ISLAMABAD: Kyrgyzstan became the first team to arrive here for the Engro Central Asian Volleyball League starting on May 11 at Liaquat Gymnasium while the Asian champions and world’s leading team Iran are due on Thursday morning.
Sri Lanka, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan and hosts Pakistan are the other teams competing in the event. Pakistan Volleyball Federation (PVF) Director Operation Naseer Ahmed told ‘The News’ that Kyrgyzstan team was given a warm welcome at the Islamabad International Airport.
“The visitors were received at the airport by the PVF officials. Later they were driven to the team hotel.” Championship favourites and one of the powerhouse of world football -- Iran and Sri Lanka -- are due Thursday morning while Turkmenistan will be arriving late Thursday. “Some of international officials deputed by the world body to officiate in the championship have also arrived in the city,” the former Pakistan captain said.
