PESHAWAR: The local government representatives on Thursday announced to postpone their sit-in for two weeks if their demands were accepted.

The representatives of the village council, neighborhood council and tehsil mayors announced the decisions after a meeting with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Local Government Arshad Ayub Khan.

On the assurance of the provincial minister, an official communique said, the Village Council, Neighborhood Council and Tehsil Chairman postponed their sit-in for two weeks, subject to approval of their demands.

The Village Council, Neighbourhood Council and Tehsil Chairman put their demands before the provincial minister to amend the Rules of Business and to provide the pending funds so that they can run their offices and day-to-day affairs.

Speaking on the occasion, Arshad Ayub Khan said that the chief minister wants their issues to be resolved. The provincial minister said that he would ask the Finance Department to distribute funds equally to village councils and neighborhood councils across the province.

“This time operational and development funds will be given to them in the upcoming budget,” he said, adding, executive summary for development grants has been sent to the cabinet. “Our government is in favor of decentralization of powers at the lower level, we will try to solve all their problems,” he added.
