The Punjab Teachers Union (PTU) has come hard on the provincial government for handing over what it claims ‘good performing’ schools to the private sector under the Public School Support Program (PSSP).
In a press release, PTU leaders including Syed Sajjad Kazmi, Rana Liaqat and others said the School Education Department had been claiming that only low performing schools were being handed over to the private sector including NGOs through the Punjab Education Foundation. They mentioned a number of schools of the provincial metropolis including Govt Girls Primary School (Asal Garah), Govt Girls Primary School (Barka Kalan) and Govt Girls Primary School (Farooq Colony) showing 100 percent results in the Punjab Examination Commission (PEC) exams were still being handed over to NGOs. They questioned as to why the government wanted to hand over the schools when their performance was good?
