Iram propels Lahore to big win over Peshawar
LAHORE: Iram Javed’s impressive half-century propelled Lahore to a commanding 74-run victory over Peshawar in the seventh round match of the National Women’s One-Day Tournament at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad on Wednesday.
After a delayed start due to overnight rain, Lahore managed to post a total of 150 for seven in 29 overs, largely thanks to Iram’s stellar knock of 61 runs off 66 balls, featuring seven boundaries and two sixes.
In response, Peshawar faltered and were eventually bowled out for just 76 runs in 25 overs, handing Lahore their seventh consecutive win in the tournament. Quratulain claimed three wickets for 23 runs. Anam Amin, Ayesha Bilal, and Noreen Yaqoob chipped in with two wickets each.
Meanwhile, at Bohranwali Ground, Multan opted to bat first and managed to score 101 for seven in 32 overs following yet another delayed start due to overnight rain. Karachi’s left-arm spinners, Maham Manzoor and Anosha Nasir, starred with the ball, bagging three and two wickets respectively.
Karachi comfortably chased down the target in the 19th over, losing just one wicket. Opening batter Laiba Fatima led the charge with an unbeaten 53 off 59 balls, including 10 boundaries.
In another match, Rawalpindi secured a convincing nine-wicket win over Quetta at the Jawad Sports Complex Ground. Quetta struggled with the bat and were bundled out for a mere 53 runs in 34.1 overs, with none of their batters reaching double figures. Spinners Fatima Zahra and Rida Aslam starred with the ball for Rawalpindi, clinching three wickets each.
Rawalpindi comfortably chased down the target in 23.3 overs, with nine wickets in hand, securing their second win in the tournament.
