LAHORE: Students and parents on Monday held a protest at a private medical and dental college after a female student died under mysterious circumstances allegedly due to administration's highhandedness.
The students were chanting slogans against the administration and demanded justice with regard to the death of the student, who died due to cardiac arrest allegedly under undue stress exerted by various officials of the college.
The students alleged that the administration imposed heavy fines from Rs 50,000 to Rs 60,000 for being absent for just one day. "The officials hurl abuses and physically harass students," they alleged. Following students' protest, chairman of the college notified changes in administrative setup and announced withdrawal all fines.
The notification implementing permanent changes in the policies says that Prof Dr Masood Nizam Tabassum shall not be involved in any sort of teaching and academic activities along with the discipline committee henceforth.
The fine policy will be withdrawn. Leave policy and attendance policy will be according to UHS. Pink list as well as all detentions are withdrawn. The college administration will make sure that no student will suffer from any type of psychological financial and academic torture. A student committee will be formed with two representatives from every academic batch of the institute to discuss grievances and problem of students on monthly basis. There will be no compulsion towards students regarding joining the British School of Excellence Programme as well as insurance policy.
