ITP to issue driving licences to applicants countrywide

Islamabad:Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has announced that the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) will now issue driving licences to residents of any part of the country from Islamabad. The minister declared that all permits for illegal tinted glasses are being revoked.

Introducing facilitation programmes of driving licences for students of colleges and universities and the senior citizens living in Islamabad, the minister declared the driving licences for students would be processed, delivered at their institutions, while, residents over 70 years of age in the federal capital will be issued at their homes.

The minister for interior, inaugurated Islamabad Traffic Police Facilitation on Wheels and Islamabad Traffic Police Education on Wheels at ITP Headquarters on Monday. Speaking to media representatives after the ceremony, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said, “There are various reasons for the delay in passport issuance, however, the Passport authorities will soon overcome the causes of deferral.” The minister also inaugurated the mobile licences and learning vans by Islamabad Traffic Police at F-9 Park on Monday.

IGP Nasir Rizvi, SSP Traffic, Sarfaraz Virk and other police officials were present at the occasion. The minister inaugurated both services initiated by the Traffic Police and also inspected the mobile van. Islamabad IG briefed the interior minister. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said that providing all possible facilities to the citizens of Islamabad is my top priority. Today, we are formally launching the service of providing learners and renewing licences to students in their educational institutions.

The purpose of this service is to save the time of students from coming to traffic offices and standing in queues at train stations. He announced that Islamabad Traffic Police will issue licences to residents over 70 years of age by going to their homes. He said that we are aware of the traffic jam situation in Islamabad; we are planning to start some projects soon to solve this problem. He said that work has been started in Islamabad to eliminate drugs and violations. We will act on the Supreme Court's decision regarding violations in Islamabad. We will not let anyone commit violations.

He said that the families of police martyrs and police welfare are also among my priorities. Within three months, we will transform the situation of all police stations in Islamabad. He said that under the leadership of IG Islamabad, the police are conducting operations against drug use in educational institutions, including all corners of Islamabad. The police are also arresting drug smugglers. He said that this morning I visited the passport office in Lahore where a backlog of citizen complaints has been cleared. The entire team of the passport office has been replaced. He said that IG Islamabad is providing his services in the best possible way. Those joining the police department should also know that this is a 24-hour job.

In response to a question, he said that parking facilities will be ensured in all commercial areas of Islamabad. Action will be taken against those commercial centres where there is no parking. In response to another question, he said that despite the ban on the issuance of permits for tinted windows of cars, instructions have been given to revoke all permits issued. He instructed Islamabad Traffic Police to start issuing licences to residents of any part of the country from Islamabad. No one should be sent back if they have a temporary or permanent address in Islamabad.
