Rapid Response Force cops to guard smart cameras at entry and exit points in Sindh

Sindh Police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon on Friday conducted a meeting on the Sindh Smart Surveillance System with his subordinates and ordered the security of monitoring cameras installed at the entry and exit points of Sindh by the Rapid Response Force.

Officials said the IGP directed the DIG RRF to deploy personnel to guard the cameras installed at the toll plaza. By May 10, the smart surveillance system will be fully functional and handed over to the police, said the NRTC project manager during the meeting.

IGP Memon presided over the meeting regarding the Sindh Smart Surveillance System Project (S-4). The DIGs of Headquarters, IT, Establishment, RRF, Project Manager NRTC and other police officials attended the meeting held at Central Police Office Karachi.

The IGP instructed that the monitoring cameras installed at the entry and exit points of the province will be guarded by the responsible Rapid Response Force (RRF).

The DIG RRF will ensure police deployment to protect the cameras installed at the toll plaza.

He ordered the formation of a committee comprising DIGs, Headquarters, Establishment and RRF and apprised the participants about the goals of the formation of the committee.

The Sindh police chief said that the committee should prepare suggestions for the deployment of police personnel for the protection of surveillance cameras and actionable issues regarding rules and regulations as soon as possible. He said that with the help of these surveillance cameras, not only will the vehicles used in crime and such incidents be identified, but it will also be easier to get the necessary information related to such vehicles.

The NRTC project manager informed the meeting that the smart surveillance system will be activated by May 10 this year after the completion of all the ongoing works and this system will be handed over to the police.

On this occasion, the IT DIG gave a detailed briefing to the participants on the objectives of the S-4 project.

He said that 40 cameras are being installed at various entry and exit points of Sindh, including face recognition cameras equipped with modern and modern technologies.

These cameras will help in checking, moving and compiling data of vehicles passing through the toll plaza, the IT DIG explained.

He said that with the help of cameras, it will be easier to change the colour and number plates of the stolen vehicles and monitor the movement.

The RRF DIG said that 1400 police personnel will be required for the security of these cameras.

He said that the RRF is going to recruit 3,512 personnel.

Afterwards, IGP Memon reviewed a detailed report on police action against crime and criminal elements during the year 2024, arrests of suspects, progress made in investigation of cases and cases reaching logical conclusion.

According to the report submitted by the Sindh AIG operations, 46 cases of murder were registered during robbery this year, out of which 27 cases have been solved by the police with their hard work and professional skills.

A total of 48 civilians were killed in these incidents, 13 suspects were killed and 33 suspects were arrested, reads the report.

Out of 12 other cases of murder, the police have solved eight cases with their hard work.

The provincial police chief said the Sindh Police are committed and alert all the time to prevent crime and protect the public, adding that the police assured the public that the perpetrators of crime will be brought to book.

Memon appealed to the people to cooperate with the police and law enforcement agencies and install cameras in their homes and business places

and strengthen the hands of the police as witnesses in crime cases, and also volunteer to cooperate to testify where necessary.

The police will leave no stone unturned to prevent crime, investigate and punish the accused, the Sindh police chief said, adding that the police have made a lot of sacrifices to prevent crime and ensure peace for the public.
