Sharjeel orders upgrading offices of excise and taxation department
Sharjeel Inam Memon, Sindh’s senior minister and minister for information, excise, taxation, narcotics control, transport and mass transit, has ordered upgrading the offices of the excise and taxation department, improving infrastructure, and fulfilling logistic requirements soon.
Officials said the minister issued the directives while chairing a meeting of the department in Karachi. The meeting was attended by Secretary of Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control Salim Rajput, DG Excise Aurangzeb Panhwar, and other officers.
The meeting decided to establish counters at ports and other relevant locations for vehicle registration and to introduce other modern procedures. The meeting also decided to strengthen the checkpoint system, establish new checkpoints and mobile testing labs, and procure vehicles, wireless systems, and narcotic detectors.
Memon directed the excise and taxation authorities to introduce a system for issuing modern-style plates for vehicle registration. The meeting also decided to implement all possible measures to accelerate anti-narcotics police operations and halt drug smuggling.
He announced that legislation would be enacted to facilitate the transfer of imported vehicles from ports to showrooms and other provinces. Additionally, excise teams will establish counters at ports and other strategic locations to ensure the timely registration of vehicles.
Memon instructed the relevant authorities to accelerate actions against drugs, emphasizing that drug dealers were enemies of society. He stressed the importance of eradicating drugs with the assistance of the police and other relevant departments.
10 suspects held
Upon the instructions of Sharjeel Memon, a series of crackdowns against drug dealers are going on across the province. The Department of Excise, Narcotics Control, and Police have arrested 10 more suspects and recovered drugs while conducting operations in various areas.
The excise police arrested two drug dealers, Samir and Arif Younis, in Lyari and recovered 250 grams of "crash" (heroin). Excise and narcotics control officials arrested a suspect, Muhammad Moeem, and seized 2,200 grams of hashish in the Dighri area of Mirpurkhas.
In Bhan Syedabad, Mahi Otho, and Amri areas of the Jamshoro district, the police arrested three drug dealers, identified as Gul Hasan Dipar, Ali Dost Solangi, and Ali Akbar Solangi, during operations against drug dealers. Additionally, raw liquor was recovered, and cases were registered against the accused.
During the operations conducted by Sajawal police, two drug dealers were arrested, and 1,025 grams of hashish was recovered. Additionally, a suspect named Ashiq Ali Machhi was arrested, and 520 grams of hashish was seized. In a separate operation, a man named Zulfiqar, alias Bhutto Leghari, was arrested. Furthermore, gutka and mawa makers and sellers in Hala City will be taken to task.
Senior Minister Sharjeel praised the actions taken against drug dealers and stated that drug dealers are enemies of society who cannot be forgiven under any circumstances.
He emphasized that the encirclement of drug dealers is being tightened, and the crackdown will be more effective in the next few days. Memon warned that drug dealers should desist, as their days are numbered.
