ISLAMABAD: Pakistani public opinion is divided on the death penalty, with five out of ten Pakistanis supporting it but four opposing it, according to a Gallup Pakistan poll.

More than one thousand people participated in the survey from across the country, which was conducted between February 29 and March 15, 2024.

According to Gallup Pakistan, 45 percent of Pakistanis fully support the death penalty law, and say it is right to impose the penalty on criminals involved in serious crimes, but 39 percent are strongly opposed to it and are not ready to support it in any case.

In the survey, 11 percent Pakistanis have a neutral stance and neither support it nor oppose it openly, while 5 percent refrained from expressing an opinion and remained silent.
