HARIPUR: The Tarbela Dam authorities, on behalf of Wapda Chairman Lt Gen (r) Sajjad Ghani, have presented an Eid gift to Chinese engineers working at the 1530 MW, 5th extension hydropower project in Tarbela.

According to a press release issued from the Tarbela Dam on Sunday, Chief Engineer Tarbela Dam Project Torish Kumar, Director (E)T5 Aziz Soomro, and Assistant Commissioner Ghazi Faiza Mohsin visited the construction site of the Tarbela 5th Extension Project. During their visit, they presented a special Eid gift on behalf of WAPDA chairman to the Chinese engineers of the Power Construction Company of China Limited (PCCCL).

The visiting officials also offered condolences to the Chinese company’s officers over the recent suicide attack. They expressed solidarity and support for Chinese nationals working on the strategically vital project.

Following a suicide attack on one of the vans of the Chinese convoy in the Bisham area of Shangla district on March 26, which resulted in the deaths of five Chinese individuals, including a woman, and a Pakistani national, the PCCCL had suspended work on the T5 project.

However, after implementing heightened security measures within the site areas and along the travel routes of construction staff for the T-5 hydropower and Diamer Bhasha dam projects, work resumed on April 1.
