Managing Director Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) Syed Mazhar Ali Shah on Monday issued directives aimed at improving cleanliness arrangements during the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations.

Under an emergency declaration, Shah emphasised the necessity of maintaining cleanliness in areas surrounding Eidgahs, mosques, Imambargahs, parks, food streets, and graveyards.

Chairing a meeting in preparation for Eid-ul-Fitr, he stressed the importance of preventing any grounds for complaints from worshippers.

During the Eid, waste collection would proceed as usual, with operations at garbage transfer stations (GTS) and landfill sites continuing without interruption to promptly address public complaints. Shah further instructed the provision of additional machinery, tractors, blades, and dewatering pumps to handle any emergency situations that may arise. Additionally, complaint centres would be established in all districts of Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, and Larkana. Inspections of all Eidgahs to assess cleanliness arrangements were also mandated.

The meeting was attended by Executive Director Operations Tariq Nazami, relevant deputy directors, and representatives of private companies. Officials from Sukkur, Larkana, and Hyderabad districts participated online.

Officials reported that special teams of sanitary workers and other staff had been organised to conduct cleanliness operations in shifts during Eid-ul-Fitr. Citizens were encouraged to fulfill their responsibilities by disposing of trash in bags placed in designated garbage bins.
