LAHORE: Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) Chairman Bilal Zulfiqar Khokhar, accompanied by CEO Babar Sahib Din, inspected various areas during Sehri.

They supervised the cleaning operations of commercial markets and pedestrian bridges. CEO emphasised the importance of special cleaning arrangements in commercial areas due to increased shopping activities ahead of Eid. He directed the team to focus on manual scraping and mechanical sweeping at U-turns and service lanes on main boulevards. LWMC spokesperson Umar Chaudhry said the washing of the centre divider and footpaths along MM Alam Road, as well as the thorough cleaning of pedestrian bridges at prominent locations, including Lahore College, Lytton Road, and Hafeez Centre was continued. Additional efforts extended to facilitating citizens by cleaning pedestrian bridges at Barkat Market, Jinnah Hospital, and Pico Road.

LWMC has planned to continue mechanical sweeping and washing activities during the Eid days. Over 175 LWMC workers, along with more than 40 mechanical sweepers and 10 mechanical washers, are dedicated to the night shift to cover over 800km of mechanical sweeping and 100km of mechanical washing daily.

Cheques distributed

LWMC in collaboration with Zindgi powered by a private bank, distributed accidental death insurance cheques worth Rs300,000 to the heirs of workers who tragically lost their lives on duty due to accidents.

Over the past six months, LWMC has witnessed unfortunate incidents resulting in the death of two sanitary workers and a driver due to various accidents. In response, the widows of two deceased workers and the brother of another have been employed by LWMC, underlining the company's efforts to support the families affected by such tragedies. CEO Babar Sahib Din emphasised the provision of comprehensive medical facilities to workers injured during duty hours, reaffirming LWMC's dedication to their care and support. Highlighting the importance of worker safety, LWMC has begun providing safety cones and signboards to cleaning teams operating on main roads, further enhancing safety measures.
