No relief for people as prices go up

LAHORE:The prices of some essential perishable items witnessed a rising trend just ahead of Eid while the government has failed to control the overcharging during Ramazan which is now ending.

The government claims of controlling the prices of essential perishable items on its social media platforms. However, factually on ground, no relief was witnessed for the general public from inflation and overcharging on daily used items. Further, the prices of chicken meat have also registered upwards trend.

All the ‘surprise visits’ of government functionaries proved photoshoot visits as the general public suffered at the hand of the sellers and stockiest. Those items which were selling much lower price before Ramazan were sold at higher rates in the holy month. Now after the Ramazan prices will come down as the stockiest and hoarders have made their seasonal spree.

This week price of chicken was increased by Rs28 per kg, fixed at Rs432-449 per kg, sold at Rs480-520 per kg, and chicken meat by Rs17 per kg, fixed Rs651 per kg, and sold at Rs700-1,100 per kg. The price of potato soft skin further increased by Rs4 per kg, fixed at Rs54-58 per kg, sold at Rs90-100 per kg, B-grade fixed at Rs46-50 per kg, and C-grade at Rs38-42 per kilogram, mixed sold at Rs70-80 per kg.

The price of onion A-grade gained by Rs25 per kg, fixed at Rs195-205 per kg, sold at Rs250-280 per kg, B-grade gained by Rs25 per kg, fixed at Rs182-190 per kg, sold at Rs220-230 per kg, and C-grade by Rs20 per kg, fixed at Rs165-170 per kg, sold at Rs180-200 per kg.

The price of tomato A-grade gained by Rs65 per kg, fixed at Rs154-160 per kg, sold at Rs220-250 per kg, B-grade fixed at Rs140-145 per kg, and C-grade at Rs125-130 per kg, mixed sold at Rs160-180 per kg. The price of garlic local was gained by Rs20 per kg, fixed at Rs255-265 per kg, sold at Rs350 per kg, and Garlic China gained by Rs15 per kg, fixed at Rs600-615 per kg, sold at Rs800 per kg, Garlic Harnai increased by Rs35 per kg, was fixed at Rs415-430 per kg, sold at Rs500-600 per kg.

The price of Ginger Thai gained by Rs25 per kg, fixed at Rs610-630 per kg, sold at Rs800 per kg, and Ginger Chinese reduced by Rs15 per kg, fixed at Rs575-590 per kg, sold at Rs800 per kg.

The price of Banana A-category reduced by Rs5 per dozen, fixed at Rs185-190 per dozen, sold at Rs240-280 per dozen, and B-category at Rs135-140 per dozen, sold at Rs180-200 per dozen, and C-category fixed at Rs80-85 per dozen, sold at Rs130-150 per dozen. Dates Irani reduced by Rs10 per kg, fixed at Rs460-480 per kg, sold at Rs800 to 1,400 per kg. Pomegranate danaydar reduced by Rs20 per kg, fixed at Rs400-420 per kg, sold at Rs600 per kg, Pomegranate khandahri gained by Rs10 per kg, fixed at Rs335-350 per kg, sold at Rs600-700 per kg, Pomegranate bedana by Rs20 per kg, fixed at Rs720-740 per kg, sold at Rs1,200-1,400 per kg.

Guava was gained by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs125-190 per kg, sold at Rs220-250 per kg. Musami was fixed at Rs90-135 per dozen, sold at Rs400 per dozen. Citrus fruit fixed at Rs185-260 per dozen, sold at Rs400-600 per dozen. Strawberry reduced by Rs45 per kg, fixed at Rs85-125 per kg, sold at Rs100-150 per kg.
