SHC CJ wants action against criminals without political considerations
Sindh High Court (SHC) Chief Justice (CJ) Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi on Saturday directed the Sindh inspector general of police (IGP) and Rangers director general (DG) to take action against criminals involved in heinous crimes without any political consideration across the province and submit a progress reports within 15 days.
Presiding over the provincial justice committee’s meeting at the SHC with regard to law and order situation in the province, particularly in Sukkur and Larkana divisions as well as Karachi, Justice Abbasi took exception to the increase in street crime cases in Karachi and non-arrest of culprits involved in heinous crimes.
He directed the Sindh police chief to increase the police patrolling on highways and in Karachi, and establish pickets at sensitive areas to provide protection and security to the citizens.
He directed the police to arrest the culprits nominated in criminal cases and take action against the elements involved in patronising and providing arms to them.
The SHC CJ directed the IGP, and Sukkur and Larkana DIGs to submit a report with regard to action taken against criminals involved in heinous crimes in the Kutcha area and arrest culprits involved in kidnapping for ransom, extortion and other crimes.
The Sindh police chief assured Justice Abbasi that action would be taken against the culprits involved in serious crimes.
The Rangers DG, IGP, Sukkur DIG, Larkana DIG, Kashmore SSP, Shikarpur SSP and Ghotki SSP briefed the provincial justice committee about the law and order situation in the province.
The presidents of the Sindh High Court Bar Association, Karachi Bar Associations and district bar associations of Malir, Kashmore and Shikarpur were also present at the meeting.
The bar representatives suggested that action should also be taken against persons who were dealing with stolen mobile phones and motorcycles. They said that around 36,000 police personnel were deputed for controlling the law and order situation in the city that had the population of over 30 million while 10,000 personnel were deputed on security of the VVIPs. They requested the SHC CJ to direct the police to increase the strength of police force for controlling the law and order situation in the city and ensure that the lives and properties of the citizens were protected.
They also expressed concern over kidnapping and migration of persons belonging to the Hindu community.
