Task force established to combat organised crime

In response to directives from Sindh police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon, the additional inspector general of the Counter Terrorism Department, Sindh, has formed a task force comprising deputy inspectors general (DIGs) and superintendents of police (SPs) to address organised crime.

Officials stated that the notification issued in this regard states, “In compliance with the order of the committee and the Task Force constituted against organized crime as per the directive by the esteemed Inspector General of Sindh, the following Range Teams (RTs) are hereby notified for taking action against organized crime within their Area of Responsibility (AOR).”

For Karachi Range Team, the members include Flt. Lt. (retd) Imran Yaqub, DIG Admin Karachi Range, SSP Syed Ali Raza, RRF Naval Base Karachi, as focal persons; and other members like Arif Aslam Rao, SSP AVLC Karachi, SSP Arif Aziz, Intelligence Special Branch, SP Ms Shehla Qureshi, SP Gender Crime HRC, SP Alina Rajpar, SP Jamshed Division, SP Shahzaib Chachar heading Saddar Division, ASP Syed Abdul Rehman heading SDPO Clifton Division, ASP Muhammad Saad Bin Ubaid heading SDPO North Nazimabad, ASP Muhammad Aarez Tajwar, SDPO Gulshan-e-Iqbal, ASP Haseeb Javed, Soomar Memon SP Lyari division, and ASP Muneeb Ahmed, ASP Keamari Division.

For the task force covering Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas and SBA Range Team, the members include DIG Tanvir Alam Odho, SSP Sheeraz Nazeer, SP Syed Amir Abbas Shah, SP Qamar Abbas Rizvi, SP Asif Bughio, SP Ms Suhai Aziz, SP Aftab Nizamani, SDPO Rana Muhammad Dilawar, SP Abraiz Ali Abbasi, SP Abdul Khalique, SDPO Iftikhar Ahmed Burriri, SDPO Shehzad Rasheed, SDPO Aijaz Hussain Behan, SDPO Siraj Ahmed Lashari, and SDPO Sikandar Ali Sumeejo, and SDPO Muhammad Moosa Abro.

Earlier, Sindh IGP Ghulam Nabi Memon constituted a regular provincial task force to prevent organised crime. According to the order issued in this regard, the committee comprising the provincial task force against organised crime will operate under the chairmanship of the CTD additional IG, with members, including the DIG Special Branch Sindh, the DIG Crime and Investigation Sindh, the DIG Headquarters Sindh, and the AIG Operations Sindh.

In compliance with the directives of the IGP, the provincial task force will designate range-wise teams consisting of police officers of good standing, while the DIG Special Branch will nominate the relevant SP Special Branch.

The provincial task force against organised crime will carry out its assigned responsibilities, focusing on the following objectives: taking action against organised crime groups, their operatives, and facilitators at the provincial level; operational command of range-wise teams will be under additional Sindh CTD IG, responsible for preparing operation plans; the DIG Special Branch will provide actionable intelligence and nominate reputable officers for the regional task force; ensuring systematic action based on received intelligence against organised crime on a large scale, with authority to take action against organised crime in any area or place of the Sindh province; and authorising raids across Sindh and providing regular updates to the IGP on progress.

The task force is mandated not only to recommend measures for the elimination of organised crime but also to keep the IGP informed of its progress regularly.
