The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of the Sindh police claimed to have foiled a possible terrorist activity in Karachi by arresting two suspected militants. Meanwhile, the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) also arrested four suspects in a woman murder case in Orangi Town.

A spokesperson for the CTD said the two arrested suspects had planned to carry out a terrorist activity before Eid. They were arrested during a raid conducted on a tip-off in the Manghopir area, and weapons and ammunition were recovered from their possession.

The suspects were identified as Mir Ali Shah and Salman Shah. According to the CTD, significant revelations are expected to come out of their interrogation. One of the arrested men had also previously been arrested by the CTD and sent to jail, the spokesperson said, adding that cases had been registered against the two men.

Separately, SIU chief SSP Adeel Chandio held a press conference at his office on Wednesday, in which he disclosed the arrest of four suspects allegedly involved in the killing of a woman, Zarkhela, and injuring her daughter Marwa at their house in the Pirabad area of Orangi Town on March 27.

The arrested suspects included Raqeeb Shah, Naseeb, Zar Gul and Nazmeen. The SSP said they were paid killers hired them to commit the murder over ‘honour’. The weapon used in the crime had also been recovered from one of the arrested men, Raqeeb, SSP Chandio said, adding that the four men were hired by a relative of the deceased woman, Pervez Khan, against Rs850,000 to kill her. Talking about the task assigned to tackle killings related to resistance in street crime, the officer said they were working on 49 cases and special teams had been formed.
