PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has summoned the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) chief today (Wednesday) in a petition filed against power loadshedding in rural areas of the district.
A two members bench of the PHC comprising Justice Ijaz Anwar and Justice Wiqar Ahmad heard the petition.A citizen, Chaman Gul, had filed the petition through Ashfaq Duadzai Advocate.
The lawyer for the petitioner told the court that the Pesco was carrying out heavy loadshedding in Badaber, Mattani, Regi and other rural areas. He said the loadshedding had created a drinking water shortage as well. The court was told that people were facing difficulties at Sehar and Iftar times due to the power loadshedding.
The petitioner said that the Pesco had issued a schedule for loadshedding but that was not being complied with.He said the federal government had assured that there would be no loadshedding during Sehar and Iftar, yet the situation on the ground was quite the opposite.
The petitioner submitted to the court that the students were particularly suffering as Matriculation and Inter examinations were drawing near but the lack of power supply was affecting their studies.
