WFP team visits PBIT
LAHORE
Senior officials of World Food Programme along with agro-economists visited the office of Punjab Board of Investment and Trade on Wednesday to decide the mutually beneficial way forward pertaining to Steel Multi-Grain Silos project.
Speaking to the media, the PBIT CEO said “Self-sufficiency in food grains requires adequate facilities for its storage. The existing storage facilities are insufficient. Steel Multi-Grain Silos presents a highly lucrative opportunity for investing in the agribusiness value chain for ‘best practice storage solutions' of agricultural produce where current post-harvest losses can be transformed into economic gain."
Th World Food Programme team will be meeting the Punjab chief minister in the coming week to update him on the feasibility and technical requirements of the project.
Steel Multi-Grain Silos project will ensure bringing the grain storage industry in Pakistan in line with the international best practices in multi-grain storage and handling. World Food Programme is providing assistance to the government of Punjab in building 200 steel grain silos in different parts of Punjab.
