Task force against organised crime in Sindh revived

The IGP said all steps had been taken to provide a monthly allowance of Rs10,000 to the police personnel posted in Katcha areas

The Sindh inspector general of police (IGP), Ghulam Nabi Memon, on Friday ordered the revival of formation of the provincial task force that had not been functional since his earlier transfer before the elections.

The force shall work for the prevention of organised crime in the province. Officials said the IGP constituted a regular provincial task force to prevent organised crime. According to the order issued in this regard, the committee comprising the task force against organised crime would work under the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) additional IG and its members would include the Special Branch Sindh DIG, Crime and Investigation Sindh DIG, Headquarters Sindh DIG and Operations Sindh AIG.

In view of the orders of the IGP, the provincial task force would notify range-wise teams consisting of police officers of good reputation to fulfil the responsibilities of the committee, while the Special Branch DIG would nominate the concerned Special Branch SP. The Provincial Task Force against Organised Crime would carry out the assigned responsibilities keeping in view the following conditions and goals.

At the provincial level, action would be taken against organised crime groups, their operatives and facilitators. The range-wise teams would be operationally commanded by the CTD additional IG and would prepare the operation plan, while the Special Branch DIG would provide actionable intelligence as well as ensure the nomination of officers of good reputation and reputation for the regional task force.

The task force would ensure full and systematic action based on the intelligence received against organised crime on a large scale through its information or the Special Branch DIG. The task force would have the authority to ensure action against organised crime in any area of Sindh.

The task force not only would make recommendations for the elimination of organised crime, but it would also be obliged to keep the IGP informed of its progress from time to time.

Earlier, IGP Memon presided over the meeting and discussed all the issues and measures regarding the implementation of the decisions for the success of the operation against the robbers of the Katcha area. The Sindh police chief said technical support from the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) would also be ensured for organised operations against the robbers in Katcha areas and safe recovery of hostages. Cooperation between the police and CPLC in this regard would definitely be useful and fruitful, he remarked.

The IGP said all steps had been taken to provide a monthly allowance of Rs10,000 to the police personnel posted in Katcha areas, and since this allowance was only for the personnel of Katcha areas, it should be ensured that it was not given to any guard or gunman or other staff, or else all the responsibility would be fixed on the SSPs concerned who would face punishment.
