3,000 arrested in crackdown on kite flyers, traders

LAHORE: Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa has said kite flying is a bloody sport, adding police, traffic police and district administration are taking a strict action on violation of kite flying ban.

So far, 2,000 arrests have been made in Lahore and more than 3,000 arrests have been made in the entire Lahore Division for violating the kite flying ban, the commissioner said while chairing a meeting. The meeting was held regarding a ban on kite flying, Yom-e-Ali (RA) and Easter. In Lahore, police and administration have installed more than 18 thousand protective kite wires on motorcycles. Commissioner said that the district administration will continue to crack down completely on the business related to kite flying and kite flying.

He said to send messages to imams for awareness against kite flying from the mosques, churches and imambargahs. Commissioner was told in the briefing that on 21st Ramazan Yom-e-Ali, the district administration and police have finalised all the security measures.

Meanwhile, Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa visited Chuhng for annual examination checking. The commissioner paid a surprise visit to Government Girls Higher Secondary School Chung. AC Raiwind Zainab Tahir was also present along with the commissioner.

The commissioner visited all the examination rooms of Class IX. Commissioner instructed the AC that there is less light in the examination rooms of the school, more lights must be installed. He said that CEO Education Lahore must check the lighting standards in all examination rooms. He saw the papers of some students appearing for the exam and encouraged them.

A meeting regarding tanneries water discharge treatment plants was held under the chairmanship of Muhammad Ali Randhawa. Commissioner said that tanneries management must implement working for chrome discharge treatment plants. He said that orders and instructions of Lahore High Court are clear.

Tanneries will have to install treatment plants within a specified period. The District Administration in conjunction with the Management will verify all technical interventions, the commissioner said and added Deputy Director of Environment has appointed a focal person for technical assistance who will be in full contact with the tanneries management.
