HYDERABAD: An alliance of civil society organisations, including rights organisations actively working in Hyderabad, has been formed under the name of Hyderabad Joint Action Committee.
The purpose of forming the joint action committee is to advocate for the fundamental rights of vulnerable communities in specific and of citizens in general, and promote collective action on key issues and social and humanitarian concerns.
In the founding meeting of the action committee held at the Hyderabad Press Club, the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP), which hosted the meeting, was given the responsibility for a year to call and coordinate the committee’s meeting with the consensus of its constituent member organisations on important issues.
These issues especially include all gross violations of human rights, including all incidents of gender-based violence, religious discrimination and curbs on the freedom of expression.
The meeting also resolved that civil society organisations and persons of eminence in the field of rights struggle who could not attend the first meeting of the action committee would be invited to be a part of the committee in the future.
The committee will take joint action on the basis of the consensus of the member organisations of the alliance. The HRCP suggests that a second meeting to complete the alliance membership be called during this month.
