ISLAMABAD: Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP) Muhammad Ajmal Gondal presented the audit report of the federal government for the Audit Year 2023-24 to President Asif Ali Zardari at Aiwan-e-Sadr. As per constitution, the president will now send the Audit Report of the federal government for the Audit Year 2023-24 to be laid down in the National Assembly.

According to Article 171 of the constitution, “The reports of the Auditor-General relating to the accounts of the federation shall be submitted to the president, who shall cause them to be laid before both houses of Majlis-e-Shoora (Parliament) and the reports of the Auditor-General relating to the accounts of a province shall be submitted to the governor of the province, who shall cause them to be laid before the provincial assembly.”

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has so far not been constituted which has to take the audit reports for the accountability as the National Assembly Speaker has not so far notified the Opposition leader in the National Assembly and as per Parliamentary tradition that was being followed since 2008 the PAC chairman either be opposition leader or a person who be nominated by Opposition leader.
