HYDERABAD: Murdered law student Yusra Batool’s brother Agha Akash, who was attacked in Hyderabad along with his sister, passed away at the Ziauddin Hospital in Karachi on Monday.
On March 7 Irshad Khokhar opened fire on law students Yusra and Akash in Hyderabad, killing the sister on the spot and leaving the brother severely wounded. The attacker then shot himself dead.
On March 14 Akash was shifted from the Civil Hospital Hyderabad to Karachi, where he was being treated with the support of the Sindh government. A case was registered at the Naseem Nagar police station on the complaint of Agha Umair, brother of the deceased siblings. According to the FIR, Khokhar, another man and two women had visited Yusra’s home seeking her hand in marriage for Khokhar.
The complainant said that because of the age difference, and Khokhar’s harsh tone and behaviour, Yusra refused the proposal, adding that the people who had come with Khokhar told them as they were leaving that the man was stubborn.
Umair said that at 11:40am on March 7, his sister and brother were reported to have been shot, adding that on reaching the hospital, they found the sister’s dead body and the brother under treatment in the ICU.
Relatives mentioned at the hospital that a video clip is circulating on social media that shows a man firing shots indiscriminately, and later shooting himself as well. The man who shot the siblings before committing suicide was identified as Khokhar through the CCTV camera footage.
Umair claims that Khokhar had attacked his siblings after consulting three or four unidentified persons. He also expressed reservations over the police investigation, saying that the Hyderabad police have not taken any action yet. Neither the owner of the car has been arrested nor has there been any report regarding the pistol found on Khokhar, and all of this is frustrating the family, he added.
