BUREWALA: Four police officers, including a station house officer (SHO), were booked and arrested on the charges of attempt to murder, illegal detention and abuse of authority.
The incident occurred at Karampur police station in Vehari district.According to reports, a court bailiff Muhammad Khizar acting on the orders of Justice Sarfraz Dogar of the Lahore High Court Multan Bench went to Karampur police station to release three people, Azhar Shah, Muzammil Shah and Nasir Ghazar on March 14, who were reportedly being held illegally on suspicion of theft.
However, accused SHO Nasir Mahmood and ASI Muhammad Idrees allegedly obstructed the bailiff’s efforts and threatened him of dire consequences. Constables Tanveer and Saeed were also among eth accused persons.
Justice Sarfraz Dogar after receiving the bailiff’s report expressed severe displeasure and directed the Multan Regional Police Officer (RPO) and the Vehari District Police Officer (DPO) to appear before the court and explain the incident. He also ordered registration of a
case against the responsible officers.
Following the court’s orders, DPO Esa Khan Sukhera, SP Investigation Farooq Ahmed and Mailsi DSP Rana Nadeem Iqbal reached the Karampur police station to register a case against the SHO, ASI and two constables. The SHO and ASI were subsequently arrested and detained at the same police station.
