KARACHI: Islamabad United opener Martin Guptill, who played in place of injured Colin Munro in the crucial Eliminator 1 and scored a brilliant half-century, credited spinner Imad Wasim for delivering a “well-executed spell of bowling” that helped them outclass Quetta Gladiators.
Guptill, playing his first game in this year’s HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL), played a great anchor inning that allowed other batters to bat aggressively and United to post a competitive 174-run total on a tough batting surface at Karachi’s National Bank Stadium.
“It came overnight that I was going to be playing. I was just a replacement. Got my chance, and helped post a competitive total, while the bowlers did extremely well to defend the target,” said Guptill while addressing the post-match press conference.
Guptill played an inning that was on a slow side, and when asked the reason he smiled said his team “got over the line, and that doesn’t really matter.’
It should be noted that the player of the match Imad shattered Quetta’s top order with three wickets in the power play after he was deployed from the first over instead of pacer Naseem Shah.
