SUKKUR/LAHORE: Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah told the media on Sunday that the system would not collapse if Nawaz Sharif stepped down as he endorsed the demand for the resignation of the prime minister.
He said the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) stood with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in starting a movement against the government. He said he hoped that the two parties would form an alliance in the future because in politics everything was possible.
Shah reminded the media of some political alliances in the past, especially the Movement for the Restoration of Democracy (MRD). He said that Nawaz Sharif must immediately resign because he had lied to the nation about his assets. He said that the prime minister should have paid for the advertisements from his own pocket instead of misusing taxpayers’ money.
He said the demand of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was his demand too. He said those who sought the resignation of Yusuf Raza Gilani had lost moral justification to stay in power. He said the PPP had served the masses and the establishment but the establishment took it as its enemy.
He said he loved the masses and was not afraid of any allegations. Later, talking to a May 1 rally in Lahore, PPP leader Qamar Zaman Kaira said the system would not collapse if Nawaz stepped down. He said Gilani was removed in a wrong way but the system continued to run. He said the Chhotu Gang of Rajanpur had been arrested and now it was the turn of the Chhotu Gang of Lahore.
He said the PPP had exposed the Sharif brothers who did politics on the basis of their money. He said the Sharif brothers should read the sentiments of the masses in the fields and markets, failing which the masses would throw them out of the power corridors.
He said the opposition was united in its demand for a commission to probe the charges against the prime minister, adding that no dictator could stop the PPP and neither would this government be able to do so.
