A sessions court on Friday sentenced a man to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a teenage boy.

Muhammad Atif was convicted of subjecting the 13-year-old boy to sodomy at his house in the Afridi Colony within the Madina Colony police remits in June 2022. Additional Sessions Judge (West) Irshad Hussain ruled that the prosecution successfully proved its case against the accused beyond any reasonable doubt. “I found evidence and connected material which shows that the victim was subjected to the act of sodomy which is punishable under Section 377 of the PPC,” he observed.

The judge handed down seven-year rigorous imprisonment to the convict and ordered him to pay a Rs100,000 fine. In case of default, he would have undergo additional six-month imprisonment. The convict, who appeared on bail, was subsequently taken into custody and remanded to prison to serve out the sentence.

State prosecutor Jameela Saeed Otho contended that Atif, along with his two absconding accomplices, subjected the minor boy to sexual abuse. Co-accused Sherzali and Shahid Khan had been declared proclaimed offenders, she added.

She said the victim fully implicated the accused in his statement before the court as well as the police. The prosecutor argued that the ocular and medical evidence placed on record also corroborated the prosecution case, requesting the judge to punish the accused as per the law.

The accused in his statement, however, claimed he was innocent and had falsely been implicated in the case. An FIR was lodged under Section 377-B and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) at the Madina Colony police station.
