LAHORE: Punjab University Department of Social Work, Sughra Begum Centre for Education Policy and Development in collaboration with Arfa Karim Foundation organised a seminar on ‘Education, Social Innovation and Social Development: Arfa Karim's Dream’ at Al Raazi Hall.

Arfa Karim Fellowship programme was launched in the seminar under which 50 students would be given scholarships. The speakers said that out-of-school children can also be educated with the development in the IT sector. On this occasion, Director Sughra Begum Centre for Education Policy and Development Dr Sonia Umar, Chairperson Department of Social Work Dr Uzma Ashiq, Chairperson of Arfa Karim Foundation Samina Karim, Chief Executive Officer Tabinda Islam, Director Social and Cultural Studies Dr Rubeena Zakar, President Academic Staff Association Dr Amjad Abbas Magsi, Director GG IT Dr Kamran Abid, Chairman of History Department Dr Mahboob Hussain, teachers and students were present.

Workshop on digital marketing

The University of Okara’s (UO) Directorate of Career Counselling, in collaboration with e-Rozgaar, organised a training workshop on freelancing, e-commerce and digital marketing for the students. The e-Rozgaar team, under the supervision of Dr Nasrin Akhtar, Director Career Counselling, conducted a comprehensive training session that was attended by students from various departments. Commenting on the objective of the training, Dr Nasrin told, 'This era belongs to digitisation and the world economy is becoming more and more reliant on IT. In this scenario, we want to equip our students with the essential skills of freelancing and e-commerce so that they can be able to make their living and contribute to the national IT exports.'

The e-Rozgaar team motivated the students to channelise their online time towards learning new skills and techniques instead of merely surfing social media. According to the university spokesperson, the UO administration is keen to expose their students to all the advanced technologies so that they can compete well in the professional life.
