US Consul General meets PA speaker

LAHORE: American Consul General Ms Kristin K Hawkins met with Punjab Assembly Speaker, Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan in the Speaker's Chamber.

During the meeting, discussions were held on promoting Pak-US relations, parliamentary affairs, and economic ties. Speaker Ahmed Khan stated that Punjab and California are twin provinces and emphasised the importance of learning from each other's legislative experiences. Both sides discussed exchanges in governmental, social, agricultural, and industrial sectors between the two provinces. Speaker reiterated Pakistan's commitment to global peace efforts and prioritised economic development and education. He commended Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for revolutionary initiatives aimed at improving the common man's life and applauded her efforts to control air pollution. Speaker emphasised the role of the Punjab Assembly in establishing a strong democratic system and ensuring compliance with the Constitution and laws. He stressed that national development was closely linked to democracy, and personal differences should be set aside for the greater good and constitutional supremacy. He urged the opposition to play its role in legislation to enhance country’s global image.

American diplomat congratulated Ahmed Khan on his election as PA Speaker. She expressed optimism about Maryam Nawaz being the first female chief minister and pledged to play a constructive role in enhancing US-Pakistan relations. She highlighted the importance of US-Pakistan relations and their longstanding nature. Speaker presented a picture of the Assembly building and souvenirs to American envoy. Also present at the meeting were American Consul Political and Economic Chief Nickolas Katsakis, Political and Economic Specialist Sadaf Saad, Secretary Assembly Chaudhry Aamir Habib, and Staff Officer to Speaker Immad Hussain Bhalli.
