PESHAWAR: As many as 54 candidates have collected nomination forms for the upcoming Senate election in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
An official of the Election Commission of Pakistan informed that 41 candidates have collected papers for the general seats while 13 obtained forms for the seats reserved for women and technocrats. The election for seven general and two each seats reserved for women and technocrats/religious scholars in the Senate of Pakistan from KP would be held on April 2.
According to public notice issued for the polls by Provincial Election Commissioner Shamshad Khan, the nomination papers for the Senate polls can be submitted till March 16 while the initial list of candidates will be issued on March 17.
Appeals can be filed against acceptance or rejection of the papers till March 21. Candidates can withdraw papers till March 27.Meanwhile, public notice for the by-polls in four constituencies of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would be issued today (Friday). By-polls will be held in NA-8 Bajaur, NA-44 Dera Ismail Khan, PK-22 Bajaur and PK-91 Kohat on April 21
The election was postponed in NA-8 Bajaur, PK-22 Bajaur-IV and PK-91 Kohat-II due to the death of a candidate. Election is being held on NA-44 after it was vacated by chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
The ECP also announced a schedule for the by-polls in different tehsil councils of the province. Polls will be held for the vacant slots in tehsil councils Drosh in Lower Chitral, Tangi in Charsadda, Balambat Lower Dir, Dasu Kohistan, Daraband, Dera Ismail Khan, and tehsil Katlang in Mardan on April 25. Public notice will be issued for the polls today (Friday).
