National Assembly members of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) have expressed concern over unannounced gas load-shedding during the Sehri and Iftar timings in several areas of Karachi, including Landhi, Korangi, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, North Karachi, Surjani Town and Orangi Town.
In a statement, the MQM-P MNAs highlighted the distress caused to the citizens during the fasting month of Ramazan, suggesting failure of the institutions responsible for providing basic utilities to the public. They noted the impact of gas outages on household affairs, with women bearing the brunt of these disruptions, leading to heightened mental distress among the populace.
They said that despite Karachi's significant contributions to federal and provincial revenues, residents of the city continued to receive nothing but false promises. They added that the institutions tasked with energy provision were exacerbating the plight of the Karachiities by burdening them with hefty bills.
The MQM-P MNAs demanded that the federal and provincial governments, as well as the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), announce an immediate cessation of unannounced gas shutdowns during Sehri and Iftar. They said the government should take swift action to stop the interruptions in gas supply without any delay and respect the sanctity of the holy month.
