SSGC unveils calibration facility

KARACHI: Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has inaugurated its advanced Gas Metering and Calibration Facility (GM&CF) at the Karachi Terminal, marking a significant upgrade from its previous incarnation as the Meter Repair Shop, a statement said on Wednesday.

The ceremony, led by SSGC's Managing Director Imran Maniar, showcased the facility's transformation into a high-precision unit. The GM&CF is now equipped with the latest technology, including INOTECH-ITF-3000-1-A and ACTARIS UT-2500 provers, ITRON UT G-400 calibration setup, and Honeywell SNAP Model III/MMX, meeting diverse calibration needs while adhering to international standards and OGRA regulations.

The GM&CF has a capacity to prove or calibrate more than 400,000 domestic meters annually. It has an enhanced annual capability to refurbish 5,000 commercial and 1,000 industrial meters and has an established EVC refurbishment setup with a turnover of 700 units per year.

The state-of-the-art facility has facilitated the pioneering Town Border Stations’ (TBS) upgradation and automation project in Karachi by promptly providing on demand Turbine Meters. Upgrading of mobile field provers is also being carried out by the Measurement Distribution Department. The Facility has achieved ISO 9001-2015 QMS certification with plans for ISO 17025 certification by 2025.

The GM&CF extends its expertise beyond refurbishment, offering technical support to various SSGC department. GM&CF team believes in continuous improvement and development through innovation, training, and collaboration with its regional facilities in Hyderabad, Quetta, Larkana and Sukkur.

Moving forward, GM&CF is set to modernize its equipment fleet, introducing 2 cutting-edge domestic/commercial provers with capacity of 3000 cft./hour and one Industrial prover of 2,30,000 cft./hour by the end of FY 2023-24.

Meanwhile, all regional GM&CF centres shall be equipped with automatic provers by FY 2024-25. This ambitious modernization aims to bolster capacity, technical strength and operational efficiency.
