ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday sought report from National Accountability Bureau (NAB) pertaining to the pending inquiries, investigation and the references filed against NAB officials for their alleged involvement in felonious activities.
A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Jawwad S Khawaja heard various applications against the NAB officials. The court directed the NAB that the report would also explain the inordinate delay in the process of investigation and references filed against the officials allegedly involved in criminal activities.
The court observed that the thana culture had pervaded in the NAB as the people went and expressed annoyance and filed complaints but no action had been taken against the NAB functionaries. The court termed the report submitted by Azam Khan, NAB Deputy Prosecutor General, unsatisfactory regarding the maladministration within the anti-graft body.
The court observed that no effective measures had been taken to check the abuse of authority within the NAB. Justice Jawwad S Khawaja observed that they had passed order on January 14, 2015 whereby the NAB was directed to submit the report but it was not complied.
He said that the court also issued notice to NAB but that fell on the deaf ears. The third time, he said when notice was issued that the NAB was violating Supreme Court orders the Deputy Prosecutor General Azam Khan appeared and stated that he had no good explanation.
It s better NAB chairman should appear and explain to the court reasons for not complying with the court orders”, Justice Jawwad remarked.Meanwhile, the court adjourned the hearing till 2nd week of April.
