The people’s court

This refers to the article, ‘In the peoples’ court’ (April 30) by Babar Sattar. The three possible instruments discussed in the article to remove Nawaz Sharif apparently carry no weight because i) the prime minister enjoys the support of an overwhelming majority in parliament, ii) courts may not interfere in an issue it considers to be purely administrative and iii) intervention from the khakis is out of the question. The best option for the prime minister is to step down till his family comes clean on the Panama leaks.

If Nawaz Sharif has nothing to hide, then he should publicly disclose details of the Panama-routed London property transactions as suggested by the writer. He should follow the example of British Prime Minister David Cameron who presented the details of his income tax in parliament. The government should also introduce legislation to stop illegal money transfer abroad without wasting any more time.
