KARACHI: Pakistan’s junior tennis team finished 5th in the 2024 Davis Cup Junior Asia Oceania Pre-Qualifying event held in Sri Lanka recently.
This defeat has shocked local tennis fraternity because the team comprised the best junior players in the country. “Aqeel Khan was managing the team, so the poor performance raises concern on the state of tennis development in the country,” said a local coach while talking to ‘The News’. It is worth mentioning here that last year Pakistan made it to the Qualifying round but this year the Pakistani team was knocked out in the pre-qualifying event. The coach added that this loss has made it clear that Pakistan’s tennis is 25 years behind the local region.
