Father of five shot dead resisting mugging bid

A father of five children, lost his life to armed muggers on Wednesday, bringing the death toll of victims killed in mugging attempts this year to 35.

The latest incident unfolded on Karsaz Road, where two armed robbers on a motorcycle attempted to rob a citizen also riding a motorcycle. Upon noticing the police arriving at the scene, the assailants resorted to gunfire. The citizen was struck in the chest. During the ensuing exchange of fire, one of the robbers sustained injuries and was subsequently apprehended by the police. A weapon was also recovered from his possession. However, his accomplice managed to evade capture. The deceased was identified as 40-year-old Nazir Sultan, while the injured assailant was identified as Sher Ali.

Speaking to the media, the brother of the deceased disclosed that Nazir Sultan worked as a carpenter near Bloch Colony and was en route to his residence in Surjani Town when the incident occurred. Sultan left behind four daughters and one son.

Two cases pertaining to the incident had been registered at the Bahadurabad police station. One case was for the murder of Sultan, while the second case is related to the police encounter. Following the registration of the case, the body of the deceased was handed over to his family. They subsequently transported his body to his hometown, Jhang, for burial.
