LAHORE: The Young Doctors Association (YDA), Punjab, has demanded the government conduct an audit of the revamping of hospitals worth billions of rupees during the tenure of caretaker Punjab government.

While addressing a press conference at Mayo Hospital, Patron Chief Dr Salman Haseeb said that the Punjab caretaker government has only renovated the hospitals with tiles worth Rs70 billion, but not a single bed has been added in the hospitals. A 250-bed tower has been built in Services Hospital, where wild vegetation is growing now.

They appealed to the chief minister to conduct a merit-based audit of revamping process. They also demanded the CM meet the real stakeholders on ground to resolve the problems. The YDA President Dr Shoaib Niazi said that YDA has pointed out about the lack of facilities in hospitals but no attention has ever been paid. "The new government should provide a peaceful environment to young doctors in hospitals," he added.

He said that the allowances approved by the Supreme Court should be provided to the doctors immediately. "If our demands are not met, then YDA will protest outside the health department," he added.
