CTD claims arresting two Afghan gang members involved in murders
The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of the Sindh police has apprehended two gangsters allegedly involved in the killings of several people, including a policeman.
Meanwhile, the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the Karachi police apprehended an alleged extortionist belonging to the Lyari gang war in an injured state. The CTD Intelligence Unit arrested Najeebullah and his accomplice Saddam for their involvement in several cases of murders, attempts to murder, robberies and street crime.
They were arrested during a raid conducted on a tip-off near Numaish Chowrangi. According to CTD Incharge Raja Umer Khattab, Najeebullah was a ringleader of a notorious Afghan gang. The officer said the gang comprised 10 youths of Afghan origin who were wanted by the police for several incidents of dacoity, murder and attempted murder.
Khattab maintained that two Afghan dacoits from the same group had martyred a police constable, Wahid, in North Karachi on February 13 and the arrested men identified them in the CCTV footage.
The arrested men had also earlier been arrested in the Sohrab Goth, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulberg, Al-Falah, Sacchal and Bahadurabad areas and served jail. Khattab said Najeebullah was wanted by the police in several cases, including that of a dacoity within the limits of the Sachal police station.
The officer added that after committing crimes, the culprits would flee to Afghanistan. Separately, the SIU arrested an alleged Lyari-based gangster in an injured state following an encounter in the Lyari area.
The law enforcers also seized weapons from his possession. According to the police, the arrested man, identified as Aziz, was associated with the Lyari gang war and involved in multiple extortion cases. Earlier, he was arrested in five different cases including two extortion cases, one dacoity case, and two illegal weapons cases.
