“We have started an operation against outlaws who succeeded in fleeing to mountainous parts of Kolai after killing a man and his nephew over an old enmity,” Abdul Rauf, the deputy superintendent of police (DSP) of Kolai, told reporters.

He said a police contingent taking part in the operation was present in the Kolai and was expected to arrest the outlaws. Mohammad Yunus and his accomplices, according to the first information report, allegedly opened fire, injuring Mohammad Zarif Khan and his nephew Mohammad Tehsil, and later fled.

The wounded were shifted to the Civil Hospital in Pattan, the district headquarters of Lower Kohistan where they succumbed to injuries. The enmity, which was started between the two families of the Admakheil tribe some three years ago over the cutting of firewood from a local forest has claimed three lives including a woman so far, and left several injured.

According to police, the two men slain recently were on their way back home after appearing in court for a case hearing when the suspects opened fire on them.Meanwhile, the Battal police seized large quantities of narcotics being smuggled from Peshawar to parts of the district.

The police raided the Chaterplain area, arrested an alleged narcotics peddler, Pervez Malik, and seized chars and other contraband items from his possession.A press release issued by the Police Department said police had launched a targeted operation against narcotics peddling at all police stations which was proving successful.
